A bit of History
Yaya’s Kitchen is a Social Enterprise that seeks to create a space to tell the story of the Black Experience through Food. Many people in London, Ontario do not know that The Old East Village is also the historical home of the London Black Community. The Black Community has been part of the city since the 1800’s and is a part of the community fabric, identity and narrative. South Western Ontario served as a stop on the Historical Underground Railroad that transported runaway slaves from the United States to Canada for freedom.
We believe that no dish can be better than its ingredients, and that the best ingredients are usually local.
